Anna Gristina, the accused Upper East Side madam, is showing Sex Workers and the rest of the world the true meaning of loyalty. Despite being placed in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day on Rikers Island with an absurd two million dollar bail hanging over her head, she refuses to co-operate with authorities. She deserves all the praise and respect from her peers and the rest of the world for standing up and not looking for the snitch- way out.
For those of you that have been under indictment pressure before either state or federal, you understand why this is such a big deal. For everyone else let me explain, most criminal cases are solved by co-operating witnesses providing key information to the prosecution. In plain English, the same friends you hang out with in good times will turn on you to spare themselves one day in jail. This doesn’t just apply to friends. There have been many cases – brother telling on sister, husband telling on wife, father telling on son and it goes on and on.
I’m nobody to judge but I do admire and appreciate a woman who got caught up in an unfortunate situation and didn’t rat on other people to free herself. Anna says prosecutors are trying to put the press game on her to give up her 5 wealthy clients. Anna’s lawyer, Norm Pattis filed a motion saying investigators committed extortion trying to get her to flip while dangling the possibility of freedom in her face. She still didn’t fold. Anna is a hero for exposing a process that so many families face daily. She states in her motion that only after she refused to co-operate did the police file charges against her. For every Sex Worker that took the high road, I say thanks for being real.
