FIRST CRAIGSLISTS, NOW THE SQUARES WANT TO BOX IN BACKPAGE.COM

The owners of Village Voice Media are fighting an intense battle for Sex Workers to keep their rights to advertise online. VVM is the owner of backpage.com. Craigslist succumbed to the powers that be.  Craig Newman, Craigslist’s founder tapped out September 2010, declining all adult services ads which included escorts, strippers and strip club. While I salute Mr. Newman for creating a platform to allow Sex Workers to advertise for free. I remain in opposition to his decision to ban all adult service ads in North America (United States).

The job of defending Sex Workers rights doesn’t fall in the lap of Mr. Newman. If our industry is to be respected, we have to take matters in our own hands by supporting people who support us and distancing ourselves from the ones who don’t.

Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, the owners of Village Voice Media are two people who understand us. They show and prove this by standing under all the pressure the conservatives are applying and not caving-in. at least not yet. Craigslist was besieged by lunatics who took to the site to hire Sex Workers only to kill them. This, along with the Attorney General’s Office blaming the site for trafficking minors, is what led to Its’ demise. It’s a precarious situation for business owners to be placed in.

Village Voice Media owns the Village Voice, Westword and the Phoenix News Times. Show your support by advertising in these papers and also look to them for any information you may need in everyday life. Let’s teach them how to “respect a dollar”- meaning if you don’t respect us, you’ll receive none of our dollars.
