Update: Sex Workers Testify On Behalf Of Father And Son

Vincent George Sr. 56, and Vincent Geroge Jr. 35, are on Trial in New York City facing charges of sex trafficking and money laundering. Danielle Geissler, one of the Geroge’s Sex Workers testified that “the whole point to ourfamily was just to become better.” The prosecutor described Ms. Geissler and the rest of the women in the stable as victims who were coerced into prostitution. A sex trafficking conviction can lead to 25 years in prison.

The Georges’ lawyers have conceded that they are pimps but denied the sex trafficking allegations. The outcome of the case is being watched closely by pimps and Sex Workers as well as the squares who passed a state law in 2007 to treat Sex Workers as victims instead of as criminals. While I remain skeptical for the reasoning behind the passing of the law favoring Sex Workers, I still think it’s a good thing for the sex industry.

Some Sex Workers, as demonstrated by this case, enter the profession knowing and willingly. On the opposite side of the argument stands the ugly truth that paints a black-eye on the entire industry. Some people are forced into prostitution and some Sex Workers are introduced to the game as minors. It’s a fact that can’t be disputed. The sad reality of all this is how the authorities try to regulate the sex industry and treat every case the same. Bridgette Carr, the director of the human trafficking clinic at the university of Michigan Law School had this to say—“It’s not shocking that women would assist the defense, and may actually be evidence of how effective the pimps were in manipulating the women.

It’s obvious that Ms. Carr has no idea about women who join the sex industry knowing and willingly and refuses to believe that a Sex Worker can choose this profession and actually be happy. Ms. Geissler, 31, has been in the game for fourteen years with Vince Jr. and they have an eight year old daughter. She testified that she was not a victim, kept the money she made and never took any of his threats seriously. Some of what she said might be a bendation (made-up words) of the truth. Like the part about her keeping all the money she made—Yeah Right! A pimp without money is just too funny but I understand what she means: she benefits just as much if not more financially than her so-called pimp. Whatever the details of their business relationship, it shouldn’t be up for public scrutiny. As long as she is participating her own free will everybody else needs to just chill.

I’m against the hot new sex worker-bashing term of the moment—“sex trafficking”. To me, it’s hyped-up bullshit to give Sex Workers and their pimps more time. To be clear once again, I agree that some Sex Workers are forced to work for so-called pimps and these individuals deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. With that said, you can’t tell me that the four or five women who testified on behalf of the Georges are lying. It’s mathematically impossible to think each one would risk making it publicly known that sex-work is their chosen profession knowing how drastically their lives will change forever.

Heather Keith, 26 another Sex Worker in the Geroges’ stable testified this: “I would say that I make my own choices. I am not a dumb person. I know what I’m doing.” Squares will never understand the life of a Sex Worker and you shouldn’t expect them to. Make no mistake, the sex trafficking law is here to stay and can only get worse. Obey all laws. Wealthy dating, webcam ho-ing and patronizing the porn industry are all legal options.
