New-Ruling-For-Stop-and-Frisk

New York City Police departments stop and frisk policy just got knocked to the canvas by a federal judge last week. A federal ruling such as this one can have a ripple effect in different districts around the country. The decision found that police under the Bloomberg administration violated the fourth amendment which is protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

Basically the cops would set up shop in a so-called high crime area which is anywhere in any ghetto, and they stopped and frisked random people coming and going out of the buildings. The judge ruled the fact that a person was seen entering or leaving a building was not enough to permit the police to stop someone, even if the building is locked in a high crime area, and regardless of the time of day.
